Scooter's Coffee

Turning Coffee Runs into Candy Land Adventures

The Ask: On a tight 10-week deadline, design a Candy Land gamification feature for the holiday season to boost user engagement and average order value, without disrupting the core product roadmap.

The Solution: A 'tap-to-spin' wheel game and a full Candy Land-themed UI that created a delightful holiday experience while providing a scalable and financially-modeled framework for future gamification.

Gamifying the UX

For a unique holiday partnership between Scooter's and Hasbro, our task force was challenged to dream up a gamified experience from the ground up. The opportunity was to lean into the visual delight of the Candy Land brand while strategically designing a game that would deliver on key business goals.

Our core design challenges were:
  • Designing a 'tap-to-spin' game that was fun for users while strategically driving business goals like increased average order value.
  • Creating a scalable theming system to apply the expressive Candy Land brand across the app without compromising the existing design system.
  • Collaborating with the Growth team to model the game's financial impact, ensuring the experience was as smart as it was delightful.

Task force, unite

The Scooters core team was already established and shipping scheduled updates, I was brought in on a task force team to implement the Hasbro x Scooters Candy Land work for the holiday release. Our goal went beyond the immediate holiday launch; we focused on providing a foundational infrastructure for gamification that Scooter's could build upon in the future.

Rapid Immersion & Game Strategy

Our Growth team helped us  define the core game theory, modeling the financial impact of various win scenarios to create a wheel-spinning mechanism that balanced user engagement with business costs.

Navigating Technical Constraints

Design partnered with product architecture to de-risk the timeline by restructuring features around Android's technical debt, ensuring we could deliver the full experience without a delay.

Design & Theming

We collaborated closely with front-end engineers to integrate the expressive Candy Land brand into the existing codebase, remapping the design system to ensure the new themes were both delightful and scalable.
